CultureTainment was set up after identifying various gaps in support, education and celebration of the talented residents of Shropshire. Set up by a collective of creatives all born and raised in the county, it became evident that there was a running theme in how they grew up in the area and what was on offer to support them. For many years extremely talented individuals were not discovered or praised for the work they did, not only locally but internationally in some cases.
Another strong reasoning for CultureTainment's existence is the ability to engage marginalised sectors of the community buy enabling them to be creative, take part in events and activities and hone their skills and become professionals in their field. A lack of attention in the arts and its ability to change lives has undoubtedly assisted in the increase of the negative aspects of our society and general disengagement, CultureTainment aims to give these people the opportunity to seek out and work towards the aspirations, using guidance, practical learning, workshops and cross learning.
Our Events involve organising and carrying out various community events to encourage communication, collaboration, and fun amongst Shropshire residents. Another aim of these events is to raise awareness of the talent in our county, to give them a platform to showcase their talent and to encourage the next generation of performers/artists etc.
There will be a strong emphasis on cultural exchange in each event with an aim of bringing different ages, races, colours and creeds together to work on the planning and delivery of each event. The aim of this is to bridge gaps in our community that are in some respects ever widening. The workshops will also feed into these events in the form of deliverables. For example, attendees can take part in the event to showcase what they have achieved as an output of the workshop. This is also a way of promoting what we offer to the wider community..
